Danville Redevelopment & Housing Authority

Continuum of Care (CoC)

ABOUT
The
Continuum of Care (CoC)is a federally appointed program that uses local housing and governmental agencies to provide rapid rehousing and targeted prevention of homeless families and individuals.

DRHA receives referrals for homeless services in Danville, Pittsylvania County, Martinsville, Henry County, Franklin County, and Patrick County. Once families or individuals are referred to the CoC program, the first step is to help them find available housing or access to necessary resources and then help them through a selection of supportive services. The end goal of the program and services is to help homeless families and individuals become fully self-sufficient. Managing the CoC is another tool in DRHA’s toolbox that helps the community thrive.

Community agencies within our service area that work with the homeless will be able to refer them to our Resident Services team.

SERVICES

The Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program will provide temporary financial assistance and services to prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless and help those who are experiencing homelessness to be re-housed and stabilized. Assistance is targeted for individuals and families who would be homeless without it. Assistance includes short-term or medium-term rental assistance and housing relocation and stabilization services, including such activities as mediation, financial counseling, security or utility deposits, utility payments, moving cost assistance, and case management.

All services are dependent upon eligibility and funding availability. Due to the overwhelming need for housing, applicants can be added to a waiting list.

The individuals in our program are working hard to turn their lives around and are in need of a second chance. We hope you will join us in giving them that chance. We know that it can feel risky to accept tenants who have had problems maintaining housing stability in the past. However, our clients are committed to succeeding, and we are committed to helping them succeed. Yet, we cannot do it alone - landlords literally hold the keys to our clients' futures.

LANDLORDS

Since its establishment, the Danville Redevelopment and Housing Authority Continuum of Care Program has found permanent housing for many formerly homeless individuals. Our program's success is based upon regular communication with our clients and program partners and a commitment to following through on our promises. If you would like to speak with other landlords we have worked with; we would happily provide you with some references.

If you're homeless or at risk of homelessness, please complete the referral form at www.wpbhc.org.
